Introduction
The standardized way of telling time in the military is by using the 24-hour clock system, also known as military time. This clock system starts at midnight (00:00) and ends at 23:59, instead of restarting after midday like the regular AM/PM clock.
The Basics of Military Time
The military time chart follows a simple format. The first two digits represent the hour, while the last two digits represent minutes.
Example:
- 12:30 AM = 0030 hours (subtracting 12 from 12:30)
- 4:45 PM = Now to convert this our fingers comes in handy ,your index finger on your left-hand resting on number '12' while counting clockwise when you reach number '4' it will match with middle finger that indicates '16' hours (adding 12 to turn PM into military time)
Advantages of Using Military Time Chart
The advantages of using military time include:
- Avoiding confusion between AM and PM times
- Easier coordination for activities that occur beyond midnight or during early morning hours
- No need to specify whether it is morning or evening, reducing miscommunications and mistakes
Clock Conversions Using Military Time Chart
You can easily convert an ordinary hours and minute clock to a military one by adding some additional codes such as :
Civilian Clock Representation(AM/PM) | Military Clock Representation |
---|---|
1:00 AM | 0100 hrs |
2:15 PM | 1415 hrs |
11:55 AM | 1155 hrs< / td > |
